Coconut oil (Cocos nucifera)

Coconut oil is not only great for your skin, but for your internal organs as well. To date, there are over 1,500 studies proving coconut oil to be one of the healthiest foods on the planet. Coconut oil benefits and uses go beyond what most people realise.

Research has finally uncovered the secrets to this amazing fruit; namely healthy fats called medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), these unique fats include: Caprylic acid, Lauric acid, Capric acid. Around 62% of the oils in coconut are made up of these 3 healthy fatty acids and 91% of the fat in coconut oil is healthy saturated fat.

Rich in anti-microbial, anti- fungal & anti-oxidant properties to prevent cellular aging, it softens and shrinks wrinkles, protects against sun damage and skin infections, promotes healing and gives a more youthful, healthy appearance and so much more. For these reasons, coconut oil forms the base ingredient for many skincare products like soaps, shampoos, lotions, and creams.

Aloe vera (Paraben free)

Aloe Vera keeps your skin cool, hydrated and smooth, it has an easy natural fragrance. It is a light non-foaming gel. Typical shelf life up to 12-18 months when stored in an air tight container and cool environment. Aloe Barbandensis Miller, the most popular and the most potent type of Aloe vera, is used in Cocovera creams.

Aloe vera is an anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory & antioxidant agent, reducing skin problems & scarring. It contains polysaccharides, amino acids & vitamins stimulating new cell growth, speeding up the healing process.

Aloe Vera is widely used as an after-sun & wound treatment as it is soothing and reduces inflammation.

Australian Almond oil (Virgin cold pressed)

Sweet Almond Oil is one of the most popular oils used in the world today. It is moisturising, suits most cosmetic applications, is rich in essential omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants, magnesium, calcium and vitamins A & E. Sweet almond oil soothes dry and irritated skin and is a great massage oil because of its light texture and light aroma.  It is produced widely and in abundance globally.

VITAMIN E OIL

Vitamin E Oil is a great moisturizer and softens the skin as it penetrates easily, without leaving a greasy film on the surface.

Vitamin E Oil serves as a strong anti-oxidant, protecting fats from breakdown by free radical chain reactions. Vitamin E is necessary for the efficient utilization of oxygen in the tissues and for maintenance of connective tissues. Studies have shown that Vitamin E is well absorbed through the skin and shows a great affinity for the small blood vessels or the capillaries.

Australian Jojoba oil (Virgin cold pressed)

Jojoba is fast penetrating, helping the skin's natural healing systems to work at optimum levels. It absorbs easily, is non greasy and is very soothing, no matter what skin type. Unrefined jojoba is a golden color with a slight odor. Women have been using Jojoba oil as a beauty treatment for centuries. Native American women extracted the oil from jojoba seeds and used it in treatments of many kinds. In massage jojoba provides a superior stable base for incorporating essential oils or other carrier oils. Its antioxidant properties prevent rancidity and prolong shelf life.

Coffee beans (Atherton Tablelands)

Cocovera body scrub uses coffee beans grown on the Atherton Tablelands in North Queensland as an exfoliant. Ground coffee beans gently exfoliate the skin while providing caffeine to the skin to help reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Magnesium sulfate (epsom salts)

Comprised of the minerals magnesium and sulfate, Epsom salt is a natural exfoliant and anti-inflammation remedy that can be used to treat dryskin, sore muscles, small wounds and even to fight illness. It can also be added to any bath or foot soak to create a luxurious at-home spa.Epsom salt is different from traditional salt in that it’s actually a mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate, and is technically known as magnesium sulfate. It’s composed of tiny, colorless crystals that look like table salt, but it’s actually a completely different thing, as table salt is made up of sodium chloride. Magnesium sulfate is a mineral that many of us are lacking in, as levels have been decreasing over the last three to four decades around the world.

Polysorbate (Emulsifier)

Emulsifiers are used in creams and lotions to mix water soluble ingredients with oils. Since water and oil do not mix but stay separated, an additional agent (emulsifier) is necessary to form a homogenous mixture keeping water and oil in a stable bond. Polysorbate is commonly used in icecream.

Glycerin

A colourless sweet viscous liquid derived from vegetable fats. It is a by-product of the
soap-making process, which separates the glycerin from the fatty acids in the whole oil.

Methyl cellulose

Cocovera uses methyl cellulose in our body scrubs to thicken and make it easier to apply to the body while in the shower. Methyl cellulose is also an important emulsifier, preventing the separation of oils & water soluble ingredients because it is an emulsion stabiliser.

Preservatives

At Cocovera we use as few preservatives as possible, however do need to use some to ensure our products retain their shelf life.
Phenoxyethanol is used as a broad spectrum preservative and is widely used in many cosmetic and food products. Sodium Benzoate is found naturally in cranberries, prunes, plums, cinnamon, ripe cloves, and apples and is widely used in cosmetics and personal care products as a fragrance ingredient, masking ingredient, anti-corrosive agent, and most frequently, as a preservative. As a preservative, it prevents yeast, mould and bacteria from developing in products.

ESSENTIAL OILS

At Cocovera we use essential oils for fragrance, or ‘flavour’ as we like to call it. Our flavours are a carefully developed blend of essential oils, but are named after the primary constituent. This gives our flavours an extra edge on a single essential oil.
